SPOTLIGHT: Top Three Attractions that are ‘So Bad, They’re Good’ At Universal Orlando
It would be great if Universal Orlando could do no wrong, but sometimes they miss the mark. However, it’s also possible for attractions to be so, so bad that it ends up making them good. Here are the top 3 examples at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure!
3. Lucy – A Tribute
Lucy – A Tribute located in Hollywood at Universal Studios Florida is a great little area dedicated to the famous redhead, but the key word is little. The size of the exhibit is no bigger than a large apartment without walls and despite filling the room with actual costumes worn by Lucy, awards, scripts and more, you can’t help but laugh about the gift shop next door being twice the size. Lucy – A Tribute could be a full museum and instead it is just a shelter from Florida thunderstorms, but fans of Lucille Ball can’t help but love it.
2. Twister…Ride It Out
Twister…Ride It Out in the New York section at Universal Studios Florida tries to re-create one of the most famous scenes from the 1996 film Twister inside a soundstage and it does just that. What should be a unique attraction ends up being a joke because of the terrible script and delivery by Bill Paxton (“They call F5 tornadoes the finger of God / Scientists call tornadoes severe storms”). To make things even better, Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt hated each other after Twister and refused to shoot scenes for the attraction together, causing them to appear on two separate screens. Twister…Ride It Out is so bad that it’s good before you even get to the actual show with cows flying past on strings.
1. Poseidon’s Fury
Poseidon’s Fury in The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure is the grand winner for being so bad its good. What should be a cool experience inside a beautifully themed attraction with a freaking swirling water tunnel ends up being 20 minutes of terrible acting from Tour Guide Taylor (with a great unisex name for tour guides of all genders) and some of the worst video cut scenes ever created and projected on water screens starring Lord Darkenon and Poseidon. The story is abysmal, but if you go in with low expectations then you’ll walk out with a stomachache from laughing at how truly horrible Poseidon’s Fury is. That’s why it is the number one attraction at Universal Orlando that is so bad, its good.
