Seventy years in, and Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) remains one of the most popular of Universal’s monster movies. Between life in water and on land, Gill-Man is also a transitional testament from Universal’s classic monsters of the 30s and 40s to their sci-fi creatures of the 50s. Designed by the great Milicent Patrick, his inspiring, highly-detailed look will forever be iconic.
Universal has just dropped a Creature from the Black Lagoon merchandise collection celebrating the 70th anniversary of the first Creature film… and it’s REAL GOOD. The collection offers various apparel, including casual streetwear and button-down shirts, a mini pin set, candle, metal sign, and water bottle.

The full collection is now available at Five & Dime at Universal Studios Florida, along with select pieces at Island Market Exports in Islands of Adventure. It’s nice to see Universal paying homage to their early horror successors!
One more monster note before I go– I recently noticed one of @bioreconstruct‘s aerial updates over the Epic Universe construction site. Our beloved monster friends – Frankenstein, Gill-Man, and Wolfman – from the old Monsters Cafe (now Minion Cafe) were recently spotted there, which means they’ll live on somewhere in the new park! I can’t wait to see where they end up.
