Permits Filed for Universal’s New Harry Potter Ride, Hotel Projects

Universal Orlando is getting a start on some major upcoming projects; permit applications have been filed with the City of Orlando for both their two new I-Drive hotels as well as the Harry Potter attraction set to replace Dragon Challenge.

Permits for the hotels were filed under the name “Project 370” and relate to grading and deep utility installation for the sites, cast-in-place foundations for a parking garage and building, construction of the shell and core, construction of a parking garage, and an arrival building. The two hotels will be constructed on the property formerly housing Wet ‘n Wild, located at the intersection of International Drive and Universal Boulevard. One hotel will be comprised of 750 rooms while the other will hold 2,050; both are expected to be open by the summer of 2019.

Permits for the new Harry Potter attraction were filed under the name “Project 942” and relate to foundation designs for a future pre-engineered metal building and construction of three motor control centers. Universal promises the new attraction will “redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world.”
