At 10:32 on Friday, September 30, 2016, the Orlando Fire Department tweeted that they were responding to a power outage at Universal Orlando. The Universal Studios Florida park wide outage started just before 10 am and affected the whole park with the exception of The Simpsons Ride and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. OFD has been called in specifically to help with evacuations for Transformers and Men in Black: Alien Attack despite no reports of distress.
Typically, OFD would not be needed on scene for attraction evacuations, but it could be necessary if ride vehicles are stuck in “red zones” that are deemed too unsafe for Team Members to perform an evacuation. An example, would be if a ride vehicle at Dragon Challenge started to make its way over the crest of the lift hill, but gravity didn’t take over and the vehicle was stopped, or if Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit lost speed and couldn’t make it over a hill and caused a ride vehicle to valley out.
OFD also said they were on scene at Transformers to check for any guests stuck in the elevators, but everything was routine.
OFD checking elevators for anyone who may be stuck. Routine rescue. Transformers ride evacuated & OFD rescuing 11 of those remaining on ride
