Trademark May Shed Light on What to Expect with Super Nintendo World
Although completion of a Super Nintendo World in Orlando is still in the distant future, a trademark filed by Nintendo Co. Ltd. on May 24th could give us a few clues as to what Universal and Nintendo may be planning for the parks. The Orlando Business Journal reported on some of the areas the trademark covers, in addition to the standard use of the name Super Nintendo World in games and merchandise.
Management and arrangement of video game events: This could be a reference to live gaming tournaments hosted on property.
Organization, management or arrangement of entertainment shows and events, namely, amusement park shows and special events at an amusement park: This seems pretty standard for any park related Nintendo activity.
Organization, management or arrangement of kart racing; organization, management or arrangement of motorcycle events and other events with vehicle: This section will probably lead to the most speculation, as previous patents by Universal have lead to numerous rumors about possible Mario Kart related attractions.
Rental of handheld game apparatus: It is not mentioned if this related to devices already available (the 3DS or Switch), possible new devices, or if they would be synced with the park experience in any way.
Providing hotel accommodation services; restaurant services, namely providing of food and beverages for consumption on and off the premises; rental of conference rooms; rental of exhibition spaces; rental of event venues: This leaves Universal the ability to build hotels/resorts with the Nintendo theme should the situation seem profitable, regardless of whether they are currently developing the idea or not.
Although concept art has been making the rounds, Universal has not publicly confirmed their plans for Super Nintendo World. The first SNW will open at Universal Studios Japan in 2020. Universal has not released a timetable or location for the Orlando expansion as of now.
