Universal Orlando Updates Face Covering Policy
Since reopening Universal CityWalk and the theme parks, Universal Orlando has been very flexible in terms of their face covering policy. Every guest was required to wear a face covering during their visit on property, but there were no concrete guidelines on what was considered an appropriate facial covering. Universal Orlando has now updated their website to be much more clear about what is and isn’t allowed as a facial covering when visiting property.
Let’s start with what’s NOT permitted at Universal Orlando. Face coverings that are not secured with ear loops or secured around your head, include mesh material or holes of any kind, and have exhalation valves are not permitted. If your mask meets any of those criteria, you’ll need a new mask. Also, costume masks and veils are not permitted.
That means appropriate face coverings must cover your nose and mouth and be secured under your chin, must fit snugly against the sides of your face and be secured with ear loops or secured around your head, and must be at least two-ply. Children under the age of three are still not required to wear face coverings. If you have a disability that prevents you from wearing a face covering, you can work with Guest Services on an accommodation, which is wearing a face shield that covers your nose and mouth, wraps around the sides of your face, and extends below your chin. Some attractions don’t permit face shields and guests will have to switch to a face cover to experience those rides.
Also, Universal has tightened up their language about wearing face coverings while guests are eating to closer align with verbiage used by Disney. Guests are required to wear face coverings at all times, unless they are actively eating or drinking, and they must be socially distanced when consuming their food and drinks. This means no more walking around with a mask on solely because you are holding a snack or drink. Unless you are actively eating or drinking, the mask has to remain on, and when you do take it off it can’t be in the middle of the street near crowds, but instead you must be distanced from others.
