I’ve talked a lot about my dining experience last week at the newly-opened Cosmos Cafe in Universal Stella Nova Resort, but there are two more items I simply must share with you. It was my last night at the resort, and I thought I’d try one more time to order the two items that were sold out by 6:30 pm on my second night. It turned out that stopping by an hour earlier did the trick for the popular Pig In a Blanket and their Tres Leches Cake.
At first, when you see the dish plated, it doesn’t look like much. There’s absolutely nothing fancy about it at all, but don’t let that fool you.
Pig In a Blanket: All-beef hot dog glazed with yellow mustard and wrapped in puff pastry. $9
After cutting it in half, you can see the inside of the fluffy pastry that the hot dog is wrapped in. Although the texture was not that of your standard puff pastry, it was deliciously fluffy on the inside with a bit of a crunch on the outside. As you can see in the photo below, it’s more of a bread-type dough. It was baked to perfection, and the yellow mustard glaze really took it to the next level for me. There wasn’t too much in there, but you could taste that it was present. The side of marinara sauce was much appreciated, but I didn’t feel the need to use it for this.
Tres Leches Cake: Vanilla sponge cake soaked in milk, hand-whipped cream, powdered sugar. $10
I haven’t ever had a Tres Leches Cake with a fluffy frosting on top like the one served here, but it was phenomenal. It was light and fluffy but not too sweet. The cake itself was super-moist and had a great vanilla flavor. The finishing sprinkle of cinnamon on top added just the right amount of spice. Although this cake’s $10 price tag was hard to swallow, I’d likely get this dessert again because it was just that awesome.
Overall, Cosmos Cafe is a great dining option for guests who want a decent meal at a reasonable price while staying at their hotel. There were plenty of options on the menu for everyone in the family, and the team members were all friendly and helpful.
