If you’re staying at Universal’s latest resort adjacent to Epic Universe, Universal Terra Luna Resort, you’ll most likely find yourself blasting over to Omega Cafe, just off the main lobby area.

Omega Cafe is your main hub for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during your stay. The menu offers classic American fare (along with some galactic twists) such as burgers, paninis, fried chicken, and pastas. The quick-service style dining venue invites guests to place their order at the walk-up counter where they pay and receive a pager. You can then locate a table in the dining area (or you can order your food to-go) before you’re notified to retrieve your order at the pick-up window. Omega Cafe is open from 7AM – 11AM for breakfast, 12PM – 5PM for lunch, and 5PM – 10PM for dinner.

After trying out the food over at Stella Nova a few months back, we were looking forward to seeing how Terra Luna’s menus would compare. We spotted a few unique items here to try, here’s what we thought!
BUTTERMILK-BRINED FRIED CHICKEN
$18 | Mexican street corned, whipped potatoes, gravy, southern biscuit

The fried chicken pieces were overly dry, and we didn’t get much flavor of pickle brine flavor from the breading. The side of corn is great, but you could order that on its own. The biscuit was a hockey puck – not being dramatic here – it tasted like it was sitting under a heat lamp for far too long. It just tasted like flour, and was tough to bite into.
CHEESE CALZONE
$15 | Ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, caramelized onions, tomato dipping sauce

We were already hesitant seeing caramelized onions being added to a calzone. (As an Italian, this is a travesty.) I could see them going the extra step and adding steak to make it a “Philly Cheesesteak Calzone” of sorts, but this left a lot to be desired. The onions were completely unnecessary, and looked too much like worms slithering out of the cheesy pocket. (Sorry, I had to go there.)

Their slimy consistency did not pair well with the ricotta one bit. The ricotta itself was alright, it had more of a grainy texture and sweet flavor. The tomato dipping sauce couldn’t even save this one. And for $15? We’d recommend trying something else!
WOK ON LUNA – BEEF BOWL
$20 | Marinated steak, broccoli, carrots, charred peppers, fried garlic, onions, mushrooms, sriracha aioli, green onions, toasted sesame seeds

While the marinated beef was well cooked, juicy, and tasty, the rest of the bowl was our least favorite dish of the night. The quinoa bowl base must have been sitting out all day in the wok, as they were too hard to bite down on. We had to eat the veggies and meat around the quinoa to avoid the feeling of crunching down on little plastic beads. The veggies weren’t spectacular, we hoped there would be bigger or more pieces of broccoli. There wasn’t a whole lot of flavor outside of the sriracha aioli or marinated beef. I would recommend requesting them to add more aioli, and maybe try the rice base so you’re not playing roulette with the quinoa quality!
HAWAIIAN TURKEY BURGER
$16 | Grilled pineapple, onions, lettuce, Challah bun

The turkey patty was seasoned well, but the pineapple ensured each bite was juicy and lightly sweet! The fluffy challah bun was the crown atop this simple yet super sandwich. And as we’ve noted in our Moonrise Grill experience, the sweet potato fries are the winning fry choice here. They’re lightly salted and offer a light, crisp bite. This was our favorite choice for lunch or dinner. We’d recommend this above anything else from Omega!
CHOCOLATE PIZZA MOON
$11 | Nutella, marshmallow, strawberries, sugar dust

We were surprised how well we liked this “lunar” sweet treat! While the dough is pretty standard quick-service style pizza dough, the Nutella, marshmallow and strawberry toppings work well together, resembling a home-made, after-school snack from childhood. We did feel it could have used a few more tart strawberry slices to help balance out the sweetness a bit more. (Psst… don’t miss my fruity hack on this dessert!)
STRAWBERRY LAYER CAKE
$9 | Mascarpone and Ricotta cheeses, sponge cake, strawberries

This cake was the sleeper hit from our dinner experience. The cake was moist (sorry, Ryno), with the cheese frostings adding a lightly rich flavor, balanced well with the strawberry topping. Each bite was everything we wanted it to be. We kept going back to end our meteorically mediocre dinner on a high note.
Our Closing Thoughts
After all was said and done, the Turkey Burger and desserts were the big highlight from our Omega Cafe dinner. If we’re being honest, they have room for quality and consistency improvement across most of their dining menus. Though, we did have some good experiences with their breakfast options (try the stuffed French Toast!)
