However, when boarding certain attractions at Universal’s parks, you are required to store your bags or backpacks in designated areas. This is because some rides do not allow loose items or large bags, such as backpacks. This rule is in place to ensure visitor safety and prevent accidents, as these objects could fall and cause delays or damage to the attractions, especially on roller coasters or other high-speed rides.
Why Are They Used on Some Attractions?
Universal theme parks offer locker rentals for an additional fee. Lockers are usually located at the main entrance of the park, come in various sizes, and allow you to store items you won’t need during your visit. Please note that they are not large enough to store a full suitcase. If you are visiting the parks on your check-in or check-out day, you will need to leave your suitcase at the hotel.
In addition to these paid lockers, Universal parks – such as Epic Universe – offer single-use lockers inside certain attractions. These lockers are free to use for a limited time and are intended for storing personal belongings before rides where items such as hats, glasses, keychains, cell phones, or other loose objects are not permitted. This is due to the speed or intensity of the ride, where dropped objects could cause accidents.
Where Are They Located?
At Epic Universe, these lockers are available at the following attractions. They are typically located in a designated area within the queue.
- Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, The Isle of Berk
- Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, Dark Universe
- Stardust Racers, Celestial Park
What Are the Dimensions of the Lockers?
The dimensions are 11.8″ wide, 11″ tall, and 13″ deep.
How Do They Work?
At Epic Universe, these lockers operate differently from those in other Universal parks. They use a facial recognition system and have double doors, allowing guests to store their belongings before boarding the ride and retrieve them afterward.
Each locker section has a central kiosk where guests look into the camera. The system then assigns an available locker and automatically opens the door. The locker number consists of the section number and the sequential number within that section. For example, in section four, all lockers in that group will begin with the number 4.
After placing your belongings inside, close the locker door and proceed to board the attraction. Nothing should be left outside the locker.
When you exit the ride, you will retrieve your items from the opposite side of the same locker. The locker number remains the same. Simply look into the camera, confirm that the photo displayed is yours, and the door will open automatically.
