The Horrors of Blumhouse Returns to Halloween Horror Nights

We are blessed with another house announcement for Halloween Horror Nights as we creep closer to the Halloween season! The newest house announcement is for The Horrors of Blumhouse – inspired by The Black Phone and Freaky. This is Universal Orlando’s third time doing The Horrors of Blumhouse. The first go-around in 2017 featured scenes from The Purge, Sinister, and Insidious. The house returned in 2018 featuring scenes from The First Purge and Happy Death Day. This year’s house will be featured in Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.

“The Horrors of Blumhouse” will transport guests into an alternate dimension where the scares are real and the stakes are life or death. In The Black Phone, which hits theatres June 24, “The Grabber” is a demented magician best known for his sinister trick of making people disappear – permanently. Guests will find themselves trapped in his “fun” house where the sound of ghostly voices whisper hints on how to escape, but guests must tread carefully to outwit and outrun “The Grabber’s” twisted magic. Freaky will challenge guests to outrun serial killer “The Butcher” who has switched bodies with a high school girl after being cursed by The La Dola Dagger, an ancient Aztec blade. Guests will learn firsthand that looks can be deceiving as they encounter the sweet-looking teen who is actually “The Butcher” – and she is determined to hunt for their next victims.

Freaky released in 2020 and is a take on the Freaky Friday story, but has a lot of similarities with the awful Rob Schneider movie The Hot Chick. A serial killer, played by Vince Vaughn, swaps bodies with a teenage girl and hilarity and murder ensue. A lot of the comedy follows the bizareness of Vince Vaughn being a teenage girl. It’s not the most original concept, but the movie wasn’t completely awful.

The Black Phone releases June 24 and is based on a short story originally written by Stephen King’s son. The movie stars Ethan Hawke and centers around a kidnapped boy who can hear the voices of previous victims of the serial killer that also abducted him. The director, Scott Derrickson, has worked on horror before with The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister, and also tackled the first Doctor Strange before stepping away from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s too early to say if the movie is good since it releases tonight, it did receive mostly positive reviews in early screenings.
