While we’re huffing fog through the streets of Universal Studios Florida, exiting an immersive haunted house, or people-watching (and maybe screaming) through scare zones, we’re often thinking which HHN snack we’re going to try next. We tried a few instant favorites on opening night, but I’m back with yet another — this time from the Slaughter Sinema 2 food booth. I wasn’t sure what to expect when ordering the black “rocks from hell”, but I was pleasantly surprised!

The Slaughter Sinema 2 food booth is dressed up as the Carey Drive-In, located at Animal Actors near DreamWorks Land.
Rocks from Hell | $7.49 | Crispy jalapeño and cheddar cheese stuffed lumps of coal

The menu description doesn’t give much away, and when I asked the Team Members working this food booth, they didn’t know what the breading or “black coal” is exactly made up of. But let me tell you, it is DELICIOUS. The “charred” crisp on the outside is super satisfying, and the melted jalapeño cheddar cheese is the best kind of ooey-gooey with a bit of heat. At first I was scared of the black food coloring (I’ve been wronged by so many seasonal theme park cupcakes), but it doesn’t stain your mouth at all – I’m dying to know how these are made!

More like rocks from HEAVEN, am I right? You don’t want to miss these perfectly crisp hot balls of cheese. They may be simple in form and flavor profile, but I can honestly say this is my favorite snack of the HHN 2024 season. I grab these almost every night I’m there, and they’ve never let me down. Pair this with your favorite Blinky cup refill beverage (or lots of water since it’s still pretty warm out!), and you’re golden.
Halloween Horror Nights is happening NOW at Universal Studios Florida, and runs select nights through November 3rd.
