Universal Studios Hollywood is revving on all engines right now. Universal successfully opened Super Nintendo World in 2023 and The Secret of Pets: Off the Leash in 2021, but now they’re moving on to the next project. Universal Studios Hollywood will begin construction soon on its new roller coaster themed to the Fast & Furious movies.
The ride system will be state-of-the-art and uniquely created to engulf guests within the Fast & Furious universe. Universal Destinations & Experiences will pull from their expertise in developing contemporary roller coasters to build the all-new coaster. Universal has hit two home runs in the past five years with Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
Fast & Furious has been represented at Universal Studios Hollywood since 2015. It was added to the World Famous Studio Tour as the finale. An expanded version was then opened at Universal Studios Florida in 2018. The attraction has been loathed for the most part in Orlando with the exception of the pre-shows. Its impact on the tram tour is minimal because it is one small portion.
The Fast & Furious saga has been a solid performer for Universal for years. The latest in the series, Fast X, was released earlier this year and has made over $700 million worldwide. It’s an impressive number but it’s estimated to not become profitable. Summer 2023 hasn’t been the strongest for movies, but Fast & Furious seems to be a solid bet still as a brand as long as the cost isn’t astronomical.
Universal Studios Hollywood hasn’t released any extra details or a projected opening date for the new attraction. If history repeats itself, Universal won’t waste any time building the roller coaster. You might say they employ a fast and furious effort towards opening new rides.
