New Details on “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” in Hollywood
In June 2017, Universal Studios Hollywood announced that the DreamWorks Theatre would be replacing Shrek 4-D and that a new Kung Fu Panda show would debut. The new show was touted as a “multi-sensory adventure” that will “take guests on a legendary journey that fuses captivating storytelling with state-of-the-art projection mapping and LED lighting effects for a highly engaging and immersive, unstoppable-awesome experience.” We now have a few new tidbits about what we can expect from the new show that will debut in Summer 2018 – including the name of the attraction!
“Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” has been created and produced by DreamWorks Animation alongside Universal Creative. The projection mapping mentioned before will actually be the first-ver integration of interior projection mapping, which is designed to engulf guests in 180 degrees of immersive adventure. The attraction “recounts a plot-filled story whereby on the morning of The Emperor’s Great Feast of Heroes, dragon warrior Po embarks on a wild and perilous mission to deliver the rare and precious Liquid of Limitless Power to the Palace, while enlisting guests to join him on the exciting adventure filled with raging rapids, river pirates, awesome magic and Kung Fu.” The visuals will be projected with seven Christie 4K Boxer Cinema Projectors and utilize 360 degree surround sound audio with physical effects like water and wind.
Like any good attraction, the adventure will begin on the outside as you make your way up to the Art Deco theater where you’ll find a box office ticket seller booth being staffed by a three-dimensional Pinocchio character asleep on the job. This will lead into the outdoor garden before moving into the theatre queue where you will find 36 movie posters paying homage to DreamWorks Animation. The lobby will showcase 20 award statuettes representing the honors that DreamWorks Animation has won from 2008 to 2015 along with original sculpted maquettes of the “Kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” characters displayed with “artifacts embodying magical powers that Po brought back from the Spirit Realm.”
The attraction will feature an original score composed by Germaine Franco with the storyline beginning in a pre-show area where guests will meet a variety of DreamWorks characters who will begin the narrative before moving into the main theatre with brand new “ultra-plush, fully articulated seats that pivot and swivel in tandem with the 180-degree action.”
“kung Fu Panda: The Emperor’s Quest” will open in the DreamWorks Theatre this summer.
