Halloween Horror Nights is upon us promising scares and thrills every Wednesday-Sunday until November 1st. With houses like Sinners and Ozzy Osbourne inside Universal Studios this year, the crowds have been big and the energy has been high. If you’re planning on going, there are some things I definitely recommend bringing with you to make sure you get the best of the experience.
First some of the obvious but important must-haves for any theme park.
Portable Charger
This might be a personal need- but my phone, like many others, does not hold a charge. Especially if I am using it all night to capture all the photos and videos I can of the Smoke and Stack scare actors.
With Halloween Horror Nights, you are bound to be spending at least a little time in line, if not a lot, unless you have the Express Pass. Having a portable charger with you means you can charge your phone while waiting, as opposed to finding a spot to stop and charge up. It also means you can watch all of Sinners while waiting to get into the house- in case you need a refresh.
Small Bag
I recently made the switch from “mini” backpacks to small over the shoulder bags and my shoulders have never felt better. Condensing is key- it is too hot and too crowded to be lugging around bags on bags. Not to mention it can be so rough on your shoulders to carry around a heavy water bottle! Which brings me to my next item…
Collapsible Water Bottle
This has been the key to my condensing. Most water bottles are heavy even when empty. A collapsible water bottle is both light and doesn’t take up much space. (Perfect for fitting inside a small bag.)
OR Refillable Souvenir Mug
While bulky, these mugs are a staple to a good HHN outfit and are pretty light when empty. Not to mention they offer refills at a discounted rate. If you’re planning on bringing one of these though, you’ll definitely want one of the cute carrying straps.

Lastly, one that might not seem so common.
Trinkets for Trading
This one might be confusing, but it is part of a new Halloween Horror Nights tradition. Starting around 2023, attendees started bringing fun kandi bracelets and other little handmade crafts to trade away with other attendees and even some scare actors! From photocards to keychains, people have been posting their hauls all over TikTok, and anytime is the best time to start. Don’t be afraid to join in on the fun!
