Firefighters were called to Universal Orlando Resort on Friday morning after smoke was spotted coming from the now-closed Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster. According to the Orlando Fire Department, crews were “working a small active fire on the tracks of a closed coaster.” Chopper 2 captured aerial footage showing firefighters on the scene as they worked to extinguish the flames. The blaze was contained quickly, and no injuries were reported. Officials have not yet confirmed how or why the fire started, though the attraction has been undergoing demolition since its August closure.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit officially opened to guests on August 19, 2009, and became known for its 167-foot vertical lift and onboard music selection that let riders choose their soundtrack. Universal Orlando announced on December 27, 2024, that the coaster would permanently close to make way for a new experience. The final ride took place on August 17, 2025, with the attraction officially shutting down the next day.
Demolition work began shortly after the closure as crews started dismantling sections of track and support structures. Friday’s incident occurred as the deconstruction process continued, but officials have not said whether the fire was related to those activities. Universal has not commented on the extent of the damage or if it will affect the timeline for the new attraction expected to replace Rockit.
While the cause remains under investigation, the brief fire adds another chapter to the history of one of Universal Studios Florida’s most recognizable roller coasters. This thrill ride entertained millions before taking its final bow this summer.
