New ‘Fast & Furious: Spy Racers’ Trademark Could Have a Presence in Universal Parks

At the tail end of March, Universal City Studios LLC filed trademarks for the name “Fast & Furious: Spy Racers” which cover a multitude of uses, some of which hint at possible future theme park experiences.

The five documents trademarking the name reference a vast number of products and services. “Fast & Furious: Spy Racers” has been trademarked for everything from video games, to clothes (including Halloween costumes), to toys, to all manner of stationery and party supplies. Those are afterthoughts, of course, to the trademarking of entertainment. Media such as “film, television, and short form entertainment” — including traditional content as well as digital formats — are covered, but what will excite theme park visitors the most are some of the onsite entertainment options it mentions.

One trademark document references “amusement park attraction and theme park services; live stage performances, namely, presentation of live show performances; providing waterpark services; providing recreational areas for entertainment and amusement, namely, interactive play areas.”

Fast & Furious — Supercharged is still set to debut at Universal Studios Florida in the spring of this year. While they obviously share the same franchise, just how related Supercharged and Spy Racers will be is unknown. Rumors have recently been circulating regarding a new water show at the park, which would fall under the “live show performances” umbrella, but that is still speculation at this point.

While the existence of a trademark does not guarantee its use, and some are filed on a “just in case we need it later” basis, the popularity of this franchise is something that Universal is already capitalizing on; use of this trademark in the near future would not be surprising.
