Universal Orlando has announced a new version of its longtime Horror Make-Up Show, and this time, Blumhouse is joining the fun! The reimagined production, officially titled Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse, will explore more than 100 years of Hollywood horror and special effects, from Universal’s classic monsters to modern horror films.
Universal shared the news late on Friday, October 9, confirming plans to bring the show back to the Pantages Theater in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida.
“In this live show, discover how Hollywood’s top special effects artists have terrified moviegoers for over 100 years — from Universal’s classic monsters to the modern horrors of Blumhouse. Details coming soon.”
Longtime Universal Creative Director Michael Aiello, who also previously performed in the show, shared his excitement on Twitter/X:
Having performed in this show for years, it has always been a dream of mine to convince leadership to give this entire venue a well deserved update. Well they said yes! And we did!
Much of what you’ve always loved about this show has remained but new surprises await and now, more than a fresh coat of paint, an entire visual reimagining from floor to ceiling!
Our entire project team has been passionate about giving this year one attraction the very best treatment. More to come but we are so thrilled to present this tribute to 100 years of Universal Horror along with our @blumhouse partners. Horror, humor and respect to Universal, the studio that created the horror movie genre!

Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show closed in May 2026 after entertaining guests for decades with practical effects demonstrations, movie props, plenty of fake blood, and some wonderfully ridiculous comedy.

The theater’s marquee is currently dark, welcoming all to Halloween Horror Nights 35:

The original Horror Make-Up Show dates back to the park’s opening year in 1990, making it one of the longest-running attractions. While the production has received updates over the decades, including changes to its film references, props, and comedy routines, its combination of practical movie effects, live demonstrations, and audience participation has remained largely the same.

With so few opening-era attractions still around at Universal Studios Florida, it’s nice to see this longtime favorite getting some attention rather than disappearing altogether!
What Blumhouse Films Could Appear?
Blumhouse has an extensive horror catalog, including Five Nights at Freddy’s, M3GAN, The Purge, Insidious, The Black Phone, and Halloween. Several Blumhouse properties have already appeared at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights, including those titles.
After the impressive animatronics and puppetry featured in the 2025 Five Nights at Freddy’s haunted house, I’m curious if any of those creations will make their way into the new show.

Of course, Universal hasn’t confirmed which Blumhouse films, characters, or effects will appear.
When Will the New Horror Make-Up Show Open?
Universal has not announced an exact opening date for the updated show. When a guest asked about its debut on social media, Universal Orlando replied, “Stay tuned for more information.”
I’m looking forward to seeing how Blumhouse fits into the show and what Universal has planned for the theater itself. The Horror Make-Up Show has always had a wonderfully campy sense of humor, and I’m hoping that remains a big part of its next chapter.
