Jurassic World VelociCoaster is the apex predator of roller coasters at Universal Orlando Resort! The coaster, inspired by the blockbuster film series, is Florida’s tallest and fastest launch coaster with launch speeds up to 70 mph in 2.4 seconds! The original story takes place right before the events of the first Jurassic World movie includes characters from the Jurassic World franchise, including Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing and BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu.
The Jurassic World VelociCoaster spans over 4,700 feet of track with signature maneuvers like a 360-degree barrel roll right above the Islands of Adventure lagoon dubbed the ‘Mosasaurus Roll’, a zero-gravity inverted stall that sends riders upside down across 100 feet of track, and a towering ‘Top Hat’ that propels riders 155 feet int he air and then immediately into an 80 degree drop – Universal’s steepest yet. Throughout the whole ride there are 12 heart-pounding seconds of airtime.
The best part of the ride has to be the top hat. The launch from 40 to 70 mph is downright exhilarating and the views and airtime at the top are unmatched at Universal. The Mosasaurus roll is a close second though and if you’re not holding on tight you feel like you’re going to be flung out of the car, because there are NO shoulder restraints on the VelociCoaster – just lap bars.
There are plenty of Easter Eggs for fans of the movies. Mr. DNA makes an appearance in safety videos, you’ll spot books from Alan Grant, Ian Malcom, and Ellie Sattler, plus you might even spot a glass of water that appears to be rippling…
The queue is an attraction in itself. You have the chance to get very close to a Velociraptor being kept in containment and testing its limits. You’d swear it’s actually alive. An underrated part of the queue is the lockers. You can keep all your belongings with you for the queue until the final portion of the line. At that time, you place your items in lockers on one side and when you exit the ride you retrieve them from the opposite side. No more fighting with people trying to put their stuff in lockers while you’re trying to get your items out.
