The time has come! Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Universal Orlando Resort’s latest thrilling attraction, will celebrate its grand opening to guests on June 10! At this point, there is no word on technical rehearsals or passholder previews, but anything could happen. You know – life, uh, finds a way.
Jurassic World VelociCoaster will be one of the most thrilling experiences found at Universal’s Islands of Adventures. Universal is calling it “a new species of roller coaster” and “the apex predator of coasters.” On the attraction, you’ll “feel the rush of the hunt as you race through the jungle alongside Velociraptors” over more than 4,700 feet of track.
What can you expect from Jurassic World VelociCoaster? It’s Florida’s fastest launch coaster with a height requirement of 51 inches. There will be two intense launches: one going 0 – 50 mph in 3 seconds and another going 40 to 70 mph in 2.4 seconds. The highest point of the attraction happens during the top-hat maneuver where you go up 155 feet before plunging down at an 80 degree angle making it the steepest coaster drop at Universal Orlando.
There are 4 inversions along the way including an inverted stall and a 360 degree roll which happens right over the lagoon in the park. Universal even says the coaster feels like two different experiences in one, because it starts out as a twisting, turning, high-speed ride through the Velociraptor paddock where you’ll get real close to the natural born hunters and then you’ll roar out over the lagoon. The scariest part? All of this happens on a ride vehicle that only secures rides with a lap bar!
Jurassic World VelociCoaster will tie into the Jurassic World film series starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. In fact, they’ll even be making an appearance in the attraction. In an exclusive interview with USA Today, Universal revealed the storyline for the new attraction.
The conceit, guests learn, is that the coaster is the latest innovation from the film franchise’s Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) to drum up business at the dinosaur park. It will allow visitors to observe raptors from a unique perspective and get up-close, but “safe” encounters with the beasts. Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), however, issues his characteristic warnings about the potentially combustible mixture of dinosaurs and humans. Howard and Pratt reprise their “Jurassic World” roles in the attraction, along with BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu. The raptors, Charlie, Delta, Echo and Blue, also have starring roles.Arthur Levine for USA Today
