Universal Orlando Resort is making a major change to one of its more popular attractions, and it’s already getting a lot of attention from park fans.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure in Islands of Adventure will no longer be included in the Universal Express program.
In a statement, Universal said:
We are implementing an operational update to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Effective July 1, 2026, the attraction will no longer be included in the Universal Express program, allowing us to improve the flow of the experience for all of our Guests.
If you’ve spent any time watching wait times for Hagrid’s over the past year, this may not come as a huge surprise.
Since Express access was added in May 2025, standby waits have been all over the place. The ride is already somewhat complicated to load, with two different seating options and constant dispatch timing to manage. Add Express into that mix, and the standby line has taken the hit more often than not.
This change looks like Universal is trying to reset that balance.
It seems that the goal, at least on paper, is simple. Keep the line moving more consistently for most guests. Fewer interruptions from Express merging should mean a steadier standby flow, even if overall wait times stay high.
Universal has already begun making behind-the-scenes changes, which is why fans started questioning the change on social media in the first place. Hagrid’s was quietly removed from the active Universal Express listings on the official website, signaling that this isn’t just a test. It’s happening.
As you’d expect, reactions are mixed.
Standby guests are mostly on board. A smoother line, even a long one, is easier to deal with than constant stop-and-go movement. For a ride like Hagrid’s, that alone could make a noticeable difference in how the experience feels.
On the other hand, guests who count on Express, especially Premier Passholders and those staying at Universal’s top-tier hotels, are going to lose one of the biggest perks tied to their park tickets. Hagrid’s has always been one of the hardest rides to plan around, and this removes a major shortcut.
At the end of the day, this comes down to capacity and demand. Hagrid’s is still one of the most popular attractions at Universal Orlando, and right now, it simply doesn’t handle Express and standby at the same time very well.
Starting July 1, everyone will be playing by the same rules.
