Universal Orlando Damage from Hurricane Ian; Resort Update

The damage from Hurricane Ian has been truly devastating throughout Southwest Florida to the east coast. The hurricane’s path went through Central Florida causing tons of flooding and wind damage. Like many communities, Universal Orlando Resort was impacted by the hurricane winds and rain. Those riding out the hurricane at the resort have been posting updates and some of the images are shocking.

On the Universal Orlando Annual Passholder Facebook group, passholder Katerina Townsend shared pictures from Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. The piazza is flooded and the walkways to Universal CityWalk are underwater. You can see how high the water level is by looking at the picture of the water taxi nearly touching the bridge.

Over at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, the show building at Jurassic Park River Adventure has been damaged. Sheet panels have been torn off exposing the side of the building.

Finally, this photo has been making the rounds on social media showing Universal’s Islands of Adventure lagoon flooding over into The Incredible Hulk Coaster’s ride path. The photo appears to be real.

As of now, Universal Orlando Resort hasn’t updated when they will resume operations at the theme parks and Universal CityWalk. They did release a statement affirming they would remain closed today as they follow procedures and conduct detailed inspections across the entire destination.

Stay tuned for more updates on the impact of Hurricane Ian and Universal Orlando Resort’s current operating status.
